Thanks for the long reply :)
Being the kind of tweakmonkey that reads at least 10 manpages before 
attempting a stupid oneliner I really appreciate your approach and help 
offer.
After all that's why we run gentoo, no?

The only problem for me are time constraints: I built a couple of systems with 
hardened profile with no problem but then as I started working on the kernel 
time suddenly finished. I will follow your advice as soon as I can :)
My questions about switching are due to the same problem: I can't go through a 
rebuild of the server atm and I'd really like to at least enable ssp which is 
far better than nothing :)
