In general, I'm not impressed by the performance of Python. I'm not impressed by the language itself either, but that's just taste. If you'd create such program, I'd be happy with it too ;)

If you use pyobjc you get a "native" gui (and you can use py2app to
create a "native" application), you just get to program parts of it in
a nicer language.
