I am on dialup, so I try not to upgrade monsters like X, KDE, Gnome,
etc. I would like to recompile everything so they are all built using
the same compiler and libraries, but emerge -e wants to download a
whole mess of updated sources. Is there any way to simply say,
recompile what is here, no fetching?

Somewhat related, is there some way to tell emerge sync to not delete
old sources or ebuilds? I'd really like to be able to rebuild what I
have, not what is current. I have several times built a package
manually (mutt most recently) in order to investigate something.
Something like rsync without the --delete option is what I would like.

Perhals less related ... when emerging world, or several explicitly
named packages, it would be nice to behave like make -k, where it
continues to build as much as it can, until it has either built
everything or only has ones remaining with failed dependencies. Has
this ever been proposed?
