Gentoo is a community distro. If it lacks something that you'd like to see, write an ebuild and submit a bug. Gentoo is a distro built and maintained by volunteers. And we're *always* short of volunteers. Become a Gentoo dev, and help lighten the load ;-) PHP 5 and Cocoon 2.1 are in the Portage tree. There is nothing preventing you from unmasking these packages locally, by using the /etc/portage/package.* files (man portage for details).
