There is also the script I've written to replace axkit, "tr4nsf0rm" (if
you can suggest a better name I'm all for it),
http://starwind.homelinux.com/tr4nsf0rm/ which is 490 lines of bash,
implements all the transformation and caching features of axkit, and can
be used both as an outputfilter and a content handler.

I'm serious about the name thing by the way :)
