Okay, so it is weird. There has just been a power outage, and when it went back up, KDM took 30 seconds to load here too. I'm now officially confused. :) Hmm, after some experimentation, it would seem that wiping out /tmp prior to starting KDM solves the problem. Can anyone confirm this?
