Did you do an emerge sync as directed by the docs after
you untarred stage 1?

Is the bootstrap.sh missing in
gentoo-3stages-x86-1.4_rc3.iso? I was going through the
installation process, and after copying and extracting
stage1-x86-1.4_rc3.tar.bz2 to /mnt/gentoo. I went inside
usr/portage, but there was no bootstrap.sh file. Could
someone please verify? Thanks
