VMware alows you to boot from an existing os install using your own bootloader and the
lot. Then it works reasonable. It does support running everything, but it's a
performance issue. If you install windows in a vmware session, it will make a big file
as a disk. SLOW !

Win4lin runs a lot faster, since it uses a kernel module allowing it to use the linux
filesystem for windows. It works awesome with office apps, macromedia (MX) and
photoshop and the lot. It doesnt like something that requires something hardwarelike
from the videocard. 3D Max wont run.
In combindation with Wine it works even better. if you set wine to use your win4lin
windows install, it works with games. I had Icewind Dale2 fail in install in wine, and
I managed to install it in win4lin. It wouldnt run in win4lin, but when I pointed wine
to use my win4lin as a windows install, the game run great.
Speed example. Win4lin windows 98 and IE 6.1 boots faster on my machine then starting
Phoenix 0.5 in linux directly

yep, both run windowed. VMware can run fullscreen on X, and win4lin can run in
framebuffer fullscreen by starting fwin from the commandline

There is no good replacement for wysiwyg html editors in linux ( Windows has Frontpage
and Dreamweaver as example) Macromedia Flash MX has no equivalent either etc etc.

vmware works with any os, but since the performance is less, use the lowest needed os
to use your program. Why have a 1.5gb windows XP install on your machine when your
program works on 95?

Win4Lin only works with dosbased Windows versions like 95 and 98. dont know about ME
