  for me the "simple" solution was to get rid of KDE 3.0.  I did some
  unmerges manually before just doing "rm -rf /usr/kde/3" and running
  ldconfig.  KDE did some minor reconfigure-things the next time
  applications started, but worked fine afterwards.
