I finally managed to emerge xine. I attempted to self-compile it and
configure failed complaining that xine-lib was not installed. So I did an
emerge xine-lib, then emerge xine-ui and all is well.

My question: is this a bug? Shouldn't emerge have detected the dependancy of
xine-ui on xine-lib and built it first? At worst, shouldn't have the emerge
xine-ui failed during the ./configure step rather than attempt to compile the
package?

Thanks,
