No, samba allows a Linux machine to see windows. Check man smbmount.
In fact, samba brings you both client and server code; smbmount is used to access Windows network shares, while smbd is providing shares that can be accessed by standard Windows PCs. It's both in the samba package, so you'll definitely want that. :-)
