So they would coexist? It looks like it "thinks" that it will be upgrading gconf from version 2.2.0 to 1.0.8-r5 which is clearly a downgrade to me. Similar with gnome-vfs ("upgraded" from 2.2.4 to 1.0.5-r3). It would only put a "D" if it "thinks" it's a downgrade. In this case, it "thinks" that going from 2.2.4 to 1.0.5-r3 (for gnome-vfs) is an upgrade. That's the source of my confusion/hesitation.
Besides, what does oxine or xine-ui need ANY gnome stuff or xmms stuff for? Could it be because of my xmms USE flag? Could that be why it wants to muck with my GNOME ebuilds?
