Because various packages were create with differing versions of the auto* tools. It's not really a big deal; all ebuilds that use the auto* tools know which version they need, and choose appropriately. They don't take up much disk space, and you really won't even notice that they're there. Regards, Brian -- Stupidity got us into this mess -- why can't it get us out?
