This is certainly much more of a X11 question then it is a
Gentoo
question, so appologies for the off topic, but I figured somewhere
here
would probably know.
I have Gentoo installed on a laptop. I have a monitor with 2
inputs, which would allow me to hook up my main computer and my laptop
at
the same time. However, my monitor is a widescreen monitor.
How can I set up X11 so that I can switch between a 4:3 and
16:9
aspect ratio, as I switch between the laptop and external monitor?
If the external monitor is not a separate display (as far as the video card is concerned), Sigurd's sugestion might not work.
If not, it should be possible with xrandr. type `xrandr` in a terminal to see a list of supported resolutions, and `xrandr -s X` where X is the resolution you want (the list is numbered).
You will likely need to add modes required for this to your XF86Config file. Dont list the highres external modes first.
