This morning I run 'emerge system' and had no problems with this.
But, somewhere in the middle of this I noticed a message that I for different reasons failed to capture. The message said something like:
"With the installaiton of this new version of coreutils [was that it?] you can delete the following packages from your system:"
And there's where I messed it up. I *believe* it said to remove:
- textutils - fileutils - sh-utils
I'm not 100% sure. Can someone confirm?

You can read any missed message again by doing:
ebuild /path/to/ebuild postinst
