Is "current livecd" a freshly downloaded livecd? If so, then you will have no 
problems with using -march=pentium4. In fact I belive that problem was fixed 
by the time 1.4 final came out.

To be explicit, the problem is fixed with gcc-3.2.3-r2 (I think - maybe -r3).
