Hey Steve,

I'm running Shorewall firewall and I tried doing the same thing to no avail. I'm using KDE 3.1.4
and I'm using KPPP tool to bring up ppp0.
So as a work around I just added shorewall to the default runlevel.

"rc-update add shorewall default"

I am running pmfirewall, and I dial out using wvdial. I'll have to read thru the pmfirewall docs to see if it can be configured to run without and active ppp connection.

So now it starts the Shorewall firewall at boot up regardless if ppp0 is up or not. Please let me
know what you find out. Before installing Gentoo I ran Mandrake and I used to be able to start
ppp0 by simply doing:

"ifup ppp0" from the command line and bring it down by "ifdown ppp0". Atleast I think these were
the commnads. Been awhile. Heh..

But for some reason I'm unable to do this now and just use the KPPP tool provided by KDE. Although
I would like to get ppp0 running from the command line again because it is seems to be less
resource intensive versus using KDE's kppp tool, Im too lazy to figure it out right now. Heh..Heh.

Hope this helps add a little. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks,
JBanks
