This is the third time this has happened to me. I can not, for the 
life of me figure out why.
        I do notice that when it happens I get "child died" error 99 when 
cupsd starts.
        This time, as in the past, I solved the problem by remerging gimp and 
gimp-print. I can't remember this happening when I used 
gimp-print-cups. This might be wishful thinking but it is my guess.

Note, the masked version of gimp-print was the one where I had to make 
those synlinks. I went back to 4.2.5
