Duh, sorry, should read messages properly!

As the workstations obviously have network access to the server, couldn't you 
stick a proxy server on it only allowing access to a set number of hosts 
(i.e. a number of gentoo distfiles mirrors)? Can squid do this?
Or a normal proxy which requires authentication, then specify the FETCHCOMMAND 
and RESUMECOMMAND in /etc/make.conf, make it unreadable by the normal users 
and your set.
