OK, this is a totally stupid question, but I'm out of ideas. Why the hell does my Gentoo system still play music through the speakers, even though I have friggin headphones plugged in? Is the "usual" behaviour (i.e. when one plugs in headphones the speakers stop playing) software based? I thought it was the hardware itself that did that... Any way to stop it?
