But hdparm can:
hdparm -i /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/generic
or you can change settings with, f'rinstance:
echo using_dma:1 > /proc/ide/hdc/settings echo io_32bit:1 > /proc/ide/hdc/settings
That's how I got my DVD drive usable with Gentoo and ogle.
