LOL... :P Welcome to the Gentoo Club Karl-Heinz. :) Some people will manually diff the files that they know they've touched during intial install. Files that you've never touched or modified by hand I would say its safe to just update those with the new file blindly. I myself still go through each file just to see what the differences are.
