You could try using openvpn with shorewall. According to the manual there the setup should be quite simple http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html Of course you have to configure shorewall, too ;-)

This script appears to walk directories in /etc/openvpn using local.conf in each directory. Presumably each directory represents are remote system to which a tunnel has been created.
If you have a working configuration using the gentoo ebuild created structure, would you be willing to share the config files?
