More Info:

1. In addition to the missing /proc already reported, the stage1 tarball
also does not create /mnt. Far from critical, but most people would
expect this directory to be present.

2. Continued use of emerge inidcates that there is no permanent fix
for the "invalid db entry for *dvfsd" problem. Neither fix-db.pl nor
fix-db.py does any good. The problem appears erratically - some emerges
get it, some don't. Also if there are no pre-existing packages, the
clean step of emerge produces a lot of "not found" messages.

I would recommend that a really stable version of portage be implemented
that fixes all of these annoying glitches before declaring Gentoo 2004.0
read for consumption. The most likely people to use the LiveCD are
probably the least skilled and the most likely to panic when they get
these seemingly benign but worrisome messages from emerge.

Also it would be a really good idea (tm) to introduce any planned
changes to baselayout prior to releasing 2004.0, so that new users have
a relatively trouble free time before being presented with all the
potentially disastrous /etc updates produced by baselayout.
