Okay, I'm still trying to compile KDE. I have gnome up and running, but I do want KDE on this box as well... (Both have advantages, and I'm not sure which I'll end up with.)
Remember how I commented that deleting the stdio.h file did the trick? Well, it got me past the problem I had been having. Then it errored out, so I did another "emerge gcc" like people had been suggesting, which got me further along. Now I'm stuck again, this time with the svgalib package. To refresh people, this is a first-time install on a machine that had everything redone from ground zero. Repartitioned and reformatted the hard drives. Built from stage 1...
