When you type in a username and password, I'm assuming you are entering one
that is local to the work-laptop? If so, try prefixing, if you aren't
already, the userid with "machine_name\". This will force the Win2K machine
to look at its own user database.

Most likely the Win2K system is set up to not allow anonymous browsing of
resources. Credit your IT group for changing the default.
