# emerge -f sys-apps/coreutils
This only downloads the file(s), but it keeps trying the different mirrors untill it gets it all right. After that you can run
# emerge -u system

I recently (1/30/2004) installed Gentoo 1.4 from an x86 LiveCD ISO using stage3 and the portage-20040129.tar.bz2 snapshot. Afterward I performed an 'emerge sync' and then a 'emerge -u system'. The 'emerge -u system' gets stuck trying to download 'coreutils':

It can't seem to find the recommended coreutils anywhere. Any ideas on how to get past this?
