I don't know about those specific devices, but you could take a look at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html or http://tuxmobil.org/dell.html, there are a few articles on Inspiron 8500. They're not for Gentoo, but you may learn a lot from them, and then apply to Gentoo. Anyway, you may also search in the kernel options for those devices.
