I tested the responsiveness of the GUI by starting the same DIVX rip on dvdrip under both kernels.
In 2.4, I can still launch Mozilla and k3b, although it takes them a few seconds longer. (about 17-25 seconds to fully load) On 2.6, nothing on my desktop is visually responding to me. If I click a program, I see nothing happening for about 30-45 seconds, for k3b even longer. It takes up to a minute for the mozilla window to appear. I can access already opened programs though.
