There's a new option (as of 2.6.9 if I remember correctly) called
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION, which is a string you can append to the end of your kernel
name (so you can theorectically have things like 2.6.10-backup or the like
without having to manually alter the Makefile). My guess is that you went
through the config a little to quickly and made that an "n" as if it were
a Yes/Module/No option, whereas it should be an empty string if you're not using
it.
