Yeah, even some small apps andlibs written in c++ can take *a lot* of ram to compile and make a low memory system swap like hell. I've not compiled any java apps but if a program simply links against java it shouldn't make a big difference. In an other thread somebody claimed that using the java use flag in Firefox makes it need more memory to compile.
