Dont know if this has been suggested:
edit /etc/conf.d/distccd on the distccd server and add this:
"DISTCCD_OPTS="${DISTCCD_OPTS} --log-level info"
This will log the daemons connects, successes and failures to
to /var/log/everything/current on the distcc server. A quick check of
the logs will show whats happening.
