Hi all,
My samba server just doesn't create machine based log files. This is the details

/var/log/samba/log.smbd
[2005/06/16 16:28:56, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(589)
Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba3/log.tasmanian: No such file or directory
[2005/06/16 16:29:42, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(589)
Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba3/log.tasmanian: No such file or directory
[2005/06/16 16:31:04, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(589)
Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba3/log.tasmanian: No such file or directory

/etc/samba/smb.conf
# 3. Logging Options:
# this tells Samba to use a separate log file for each machine
# that connects
   log file = /var/log/samba3/log.%m

# Put a capping on the size of the log files (in Kb).
   max log size = 50

# Set the log (verbosity) level (0 <= log level <= 10)
; log level = 3

    Any ideas ?
