Well, you've definitely got some kind of gnome something that wants all this, so you might want to add a -t to your switches (emerge -pvuDt world) which will activate the --tree option and give you information as to what the gnome thing that needs all this is. If you don't want it, you can uninstall it; if you do, maybe you can re-emerge it without the "gnome" option, which likely would also solve the issue. Hope this helps.
