I'm peeking at my system's behavior, and being stumped by the tools. I understand the task displays (more or less), but the CPU summary in the header is a bit confusing, especially in the SMP mode. Cpu0 : 1.3% us, 1.9% sy, 96.0% ni, 0.8% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si Cpu1 : 1.1% us, 1.3% sy, 97.3% ni, 0.3% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si Cpu2 : 0.5% us, 1.6% sy, 97.9% ni, 0.0% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si Cpu3 : 0.3% us, 1.1% sy, 97.9% ni, 0.8% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si
I'm running a bunch of compute-bound tasks, so I suppose the 'ni' fields indicate heavy use, but what exactly does 'ni' mean? And what do the other fields mean -- if the 'us' field means 'user' then I'm really baffled. The man page is most helpful in deciphering the task displays, but I was unable to find a part about the header fields. ++ kevin -- Kevin O'Gorman, PhD -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
