--emptytree doesn't need --deep since it rebuilds everything regardless of whether it's in world or not. --deep modifies dependency calculations, and --emptytree doesn't look at dependencies anyway.

As for --update and --newuse, you can check for yourself by looking at the list (using --ask). Usually, you first do an "emerge -uDN world" anyway to ensure that the system is up to date before doing the --emptytree.
