Well, usually i'd say that the dhcpcd-process should daemonized itself somehow, so that the boot-process continues. I don't have any problems with the upgrade to dhcpcd, but i know of one friend that has problems with his network-card. Getting a DHCP-address taked about 20 seconds with that NIC and i don't know why.
