I already do this, only without any packaging/wrapping like etckeeper, just bare git. It's why I want to skip all the the gentoo merge thingies, get a crack at the updated file shipped with a package, insert this into git on a parallel branch, then merge in the git way. -- Please don't Cc: me privately on mailing lists and Usenet, if you also post the followup to the list or newsgroup.
