Some have reported success by changing authentication to plain, i.e. Settings -> Kmail Settings -> Receiving -> (Select your Gmail account) -> Modify -> Advanced -> Connection Settings -> Authentication -> Change to PLAIN and also changing server from imap.gmail.com to imap.googlemail.com.
