It appears that your binutils version is too new for your kernel version. https://www.spinics.net/lists/kernel/msg3797871.html Is there some reason you're running such an ancient kernel? The 5.4 kernel is presently at 5.4.157, and it has presumably had the fix for this problem backported to it.
