This is because you followed the instructions from the layman ebuild and added 'source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf' to /etc/make.conf. eix unlike portage does not support 'source' yet. The next release of eix will, however, support this. Until then you need to manually put the contents of /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf into /etc/make.conf for eix to notice those overlays. -- Bo Andresen
