nobarrier went into 2.6.17 I believe (kernel related change) and was
discussed on the XFS mailing list.

Hmm, I missed this before. "nobarrier" should be showing up here. Try:
mount /home -o remount,nobarrier
Where did you find this option?! Couldn't see it in man mount . . .
