I took the plunge: unmerged coldplug and upgraded to udev-103. Everything went fine without doing anything special. I only removed /etc/init.d/coldplug and did a rc-update del coldplug
Edit /lib/rcscripts/addons/udev-start.sh and uncomment the line regarding coldplugging (it is marked).
