Is it really the case that a UML kernel does not run in an NPTL environmen? I don't think so, AFAIK the UML kernel just isn't able to provide everything to run NPTL enabled application under its hood. So when there's a new Gentoo compiled for the UML's root file system, why bother with recompiling the hosting environment?
