fwiw, my laptop has an 82801(FB (ICH6) chipset, and I suffer the same problem with 2.6.20 - no mic despite using every trick I know of. However, it all works just fine with a lower kernel version. I might be wrong but I think 2.6.19 worked fine, either that or 2.6.18.
