For this purpose I highly recommend dvd::rip. There are many things involved beyond simply copying the files from the disc. Deinterlacing, audio sync, cropping and scaling, etc. dvd::rip handles it with relative ease. It even supports clustering so if you have more than 1 computer they can combine power to transcode your movies faster.
