it finds it?  Well, it doesn't here.  I still have to manually prelink
or have a cron job.

I've always wondered this too, so I decided to test it:

* Put "prelink" in my FEATURES in make.conf
[...]

So it appears that it *is* running it on its own.

But the docs I quotes say "You do not need to set FEATURES="prelink" in your make.conf."
