Thanks Valmor, I saw the thread. I don't run KDE4 only xdm/fluxbox (although I run KDE4 applications individually). In the past the odd xorg upgrade might have made things worse, until a new version came out and restored performance to a good/acceptable level. This current deterioration in performance has been gradual since I think xorg 1.5. All I can assume is that my hardware is so getting so old that it is becoming unsupported. -- Regards, Mick
