Quoth Richard Fish (on Saturday, the 23rd of September):
Hi all, Well, here it is. The proposed draft of our (sub-)project page. -Richard
Richard, thanks for hacking it up! I know there has been little feedback but I think that's just because everyone is fine with it as it is / were, not so much because we are not interested. Good job, Peter -- Gentoo is like IKEA -- only stable. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Gentoo User Representative Project <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/userrel =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
1. Project Description ---------------------- Gentoo User Representatives (userreps) are a sub-project of Gentoo User Relations (userrel) and are elected each year by Gentoo users to represent them to the development community. Our mission is to help improve communications between the Gentoo developers and users. Our goals are to ensure that users have the information they need about the developments in Gentoo, and ensure developers have the information they need to make Cool New Things (TM). We work towards those goals by: - Being involved with and engaging the user community. You'll find us helping to solve problems, answering questions, and basically keeping an "ear to the ground" on the user lists, forums, and IRC channels. - Keeping an eye out for ideas for improvements to Gentoo, documentation fixes, GWN articles, or additional communication channels. Many of us already have ideas of things that would make Gentoo better, but we aren't above stealing (er, borrowing) yours! - Providing feedback to the development community as requested or necessary. This includes feedback both on Gentoo itself and on the quantity and quality of communications to users. - Encouraging users to participate in the Gentoo development process by interacting with developers in constructive ways, including presenting their own ideas for improvements to Gentoo. It should be noted that we are not here to interfere with the existing communications between users and devs. Users are welcome to contact us regarding ideas for improvements to Gentoo, but are equally welcome to present their ideas directly on bugzilla, the forums, or the gentoo-dev mailing list. 2. Contact ---------- Have a fantastic idea for improving Gentoo that you want to share? Or wish you had known about some bug /before/ that emerge -u command? Or maybe you just feel like you are in the dark about what is going on with Gentoo and want to chat about it? There are several channels available for contacting the userreps. Web Forum: [TBD] [EMAIL PROTECTED]: an alias address that will deliver your message to all user representatives. Or at least their spam buckets, depending upon how spamassassin, et. al., are feeling that day. IRC: come and visit us in #gentoo-userreps on irc.freenode.net [EMAIL PROTECTED]: a public mail list that includes both the user representatives and the user relations team. Subscribe by sending an email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Private email: all userreps can be emailed at [EMAIL PROTECTED] 3. Our Social Contract ---------------------- You may read our social contract <link>here</link> [NOTE TO EDITOR: Below here should be a separate page, with a link to it] To accomplish our goals, it is important that both users and developers feel comfortable in dealing with us. So we will: - Always treat users with respect. Every user is capable of contributing something to Gentoo, if not today, then in the future. We must not discourage future potential contributions based on user's current knowledge or lack thereof. - Always treat developers with respect. This includes respecting the fact that all developers are voluteers with limited time. We want developers to get the information they need to make good decisions about what to spend their time on, but ultimately it is the developers who will determine their own priorities and goals. User Representatives who violate our social contract risk having their status revoked.
