Hello dear Userreps!! (and Userrels as well)
This is the wake up call email that I've decided to write. We (most of us anyways) were selected approximately half a year ago for one-year position to represent Gentoo users towards developers and stimulate full duplex communication between those 2 parties. While a noble goal by itself, most of our time spent together was not geared towards that. I did like that time as we got to know each other and stuff, and did create infrastructural platform for our goal (being our IRC channel, subforum and our own website). But then holidays happened. New Years seemingly got everyone into a very homey environment, people got busy with their personal life (me included), and, as it happens a lot in such environment, our time spent together on a daily/weekly basis was replaced with family time (much better quality time of course, at least I hope so), which lead to the current situation when only a limited number of us appear in IRC channel (our main way of contact) and almost no conversations happen there in weeks. So, after getting an urge to do things (meaning I got motivated again) and frankly, just missing you all guys and stuff we did together, I think its time to regroup. So herein, I suggest the following: 1. The most important thing - I don't care what and how we call it, but I would like to know who's still on board. Not to judge anyone, just to see what workforce we have. 2. Restate our meetings. No need for meetings just for sake of meetings of course, it would mean we need to meet to discuss things. 3. Move on with our plans. And, just to make things simple, I suggest starting with Userday, as it's the simplest things that should've been done long time ago. Remember though, that this one will require our participation, so we only do this if we commit to it. And I'm sure we will get help for organizing it. 4. Participate in other stuff Gentoo. I hope this emergency call will reach its goal and we will get back. The one thing I fear the most, is that because of our own inability to produce something valuable, the project will loose interest of both users and developers and that would be a very sad thing. We don't have that much time until new elections will start, and what I want is that it will be considered most wanted thing in user's community, and not because of forums' avatar. I'm sure we will get full support from User Relations for any move, as I hope they are interested in this project as well. But WE need to wake up, and everything depends on what WE do. So, come on, wake up and back to work!! I'm waiting for you all, Alex. P.S. I have some new ideas for us, so we need to get things started (or rather restarted) ASAP.
